The city of Florence stands with the British city of Manchester following the terror attack at the Manchester Arena on May 22, 2017.

As a mark of solidarity, a Union Jack was placed in David’s hand and a black band upon the statue’s upper arm.

In a press release, Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella commented, “We feel great sadness and pain for the tragic events in Manchester. Florence embraces the British people and condemns this new, serious terror attack that has hit Europe in the heart.”

Twenty-two people lost their lives and 59 were injured during the attack after the Ariana Grande pop concert.
